Michael Matthews Receives an AIA Presidential Honoree Award
Recipient of the American Institute of Architects "Design Team of the Year"
The American Institute of Architects, Los Angeles chapter recognized Michael Matthews, AIA as a 2021 Presidential Honoree, for his contribution as a design team member at Renzo Piano Building Workshop for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures project. All design team members were recognized as the "Design Team of the Year".
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a professional organization for architects in the United States. The AIA offers education, government advocacy, community redevelopment, and public outreach programs, and annually recognizes leaders in the field through its prestigious awards program. Known collectively as the “Presidential Honorees,” the awardees range from highly ambitious projects that change Los Angeles as a city, to architects and educators who advance diversity in the field, to emerging firms that are already making a notable difference in design.
The jury noted the new Academy Museum building as a "dynamic urban intervention that realizes design excellence on macro and micro levels, combining new and old elements that are meticulously detailed."
